Menopause and Mental Health

This month, we are speaking up about the relationship between menopause and mental health to reduce stigma and encourage more people to open up or ask for help.

We are proud to support the mental health cause through our partnership with @SAMH, our charity partner.

Menopausal symptoms may include:

  • anger and irritability
  • anxiety
  • forgetfulness
  • loss of self-esteem
  • loss of confidence
  • low mood and feelings of sadness or depression
  • poor concentration – often described as ‘brain fog’ and/or lost words

Many women experiencing menopause or perimenopause will experience problems with sleeping. Lack of sleep and tiredness can also make symptoms including irritability, ability to concentrate or anxiety worse.
Treatments:

Various treatments can help alleviate the psychological impacts of menopause. Speak to your GP Practice Team about Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). If you’re going through menopause, don’t hesitate to ask for support. Could you share your feelings with friends, family, or colleagues and let them know how they can help you? Sometimes, just having someone to listen can make a significant difference.
