This week, we are celebrating 10 years since our pharmacy opened in the rural village of Killin, most well known for the famous Falls of Dochart. Over this time, we have strived to provide many of the benefits that a community pharmacy can bring not just to Killin but also Lochearnhead, Crianlarich, Tyndrum, and those living along both sides of Loch Tay. Much more than just dispensing prescriptions, we provide walk-in healthcare advice, numerous NHS services such as vaccinations and our stop-smoking service, access to a wide range of over-the-counter medicines, and a friendly listening ear. The summer months also see a huge influx of tourists, and we’re there to help them too, providing lots of healthcare advice, emergency supplies of medication alongside midgie spray, tick removers, and even the occasional bottle of suncream!
We have a brilliant wee team with Michelle (Pharmacy Technician & Dispensary Supervisor), Kirsty (Healthcare Supervisor), Chelsea, and Debbie supporting Pharmacist Manager Laura. They all work incredibly hard to keep everything ticking over efficiently, and each has their strengths and experiences that they bring to our team. Not to forget our delivery driver, Colin, who makes sure our housebound patients don’t miss out on a wonderful service too. Laura, our Pharmacist, is an Independent Prescriber offering patients quick and convenient access to advice and treatment for a wide range of minor illnesses. We work closely with Killin Medical Practice, the district nursing team, and our local care home to ensure that we can provide our patients with a high standard of care.
Over the past 10 years, we’ve fundraised thousands of pounds for various charities such as Scottish Charity Air Ambulance, MND Scotland, and The Beatson Cancer Charity. Our mission has become to complete all of the 4 Scottish Kiltwalks, having completed Edinburgh (2019), Glasgow (2022), and Dundee (2023) so far. We would have been up in Aberdeen this year, but unfortunately, one of the team is attending a wedding on this date, and we want to complete it all together as a team, so look out for 2025! This year, fundraising for SAMH, we are taking on some personal challenges. The number 50 is the theme for the runners amongst us; Michelle, who is a “newbie” runner, is taking on the local Run Like L series, completing 5 x 10K runs from March to August, and Laura, who is a “seasoned” runner, is taking on her first 50-mile ultra across the Lake District. We are also going to have a “Book Nook” and I’m sure a bake sale or two.
If you are ever visiting the Killin area – don’t be shy to come in and say hi!
Here are a few photos of us through the last decade.
